Description
Gentamicin Sulfate Ophthalmic Solution is a prescription medicine for veterinary use in dogs, cats, and horses. It is a sterile ophthalmic antibiotic used in the treatment of conjunctivitis caused by susceptible bacteria. It can also be used to treat other bacterial infections of the eye. The recommended dose of Gentamicin ophthalmic drops is 1-2 drops in the affected eye 2-4 times a day.
Ingredients
Active Ingredient: Gentamicin Sulfate (3 mg in 1 mL)
Inactive Ingredients: Dibasic Sodium Phosphate, Sodium Chloride, Monobasic Sodium Phosphate, Purified Water. Hydrochloric Acid and/or Sodium Hydroxide may be added to adjust pH (6.5 – 7.5)
Preservative Added: Benzalkonium Chloride 0.01%.
Side Effects & Warnings
Before using, tell your veterinarian if your pet is using other eye drops or eye medications. If your pet has swelling of the face or itching, or appears to have difficulty breathing, contact your veterinarian immediately. Do not touch the dropper opening to any surface including eyes or hands.
Prolonged use may give rise to the overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms such as fungi. If this occurs or if irritation or allergic reaction to this product occurs, the veterinarian or veterinary ophthalmologist should be consulted prior to discontinuing the medication.
Gentamicin Ophthalmic Solution should not be administered in animals that are allergic to it. To prevent the medication from getting contaminated, never let the tip of the ointment tube or dropper bottle touch the eye of the animal or the hands of the owner.

Gentamycin Ophthalmic Solution is a sterile ophthalmic antibiotic, which is used to treat dogs with conjunctivitis caused by certain bacteria. Conjunctivitis is a commonly found eye problem in dogs. Conjunctivitis refers to an inflammation of the conjunctiva, the tissue, which acts as a coating the eye and lines the eyelids. Conjunctivitis is often caused by viral infections, such as canine distemper, bacterial eye infections, parasites of the conjunctiva or eyelids, corneal diseases, disorders of the tear ducts, eyelid infections or abnormalities, exposure to external materials such as fibers, sand, chemicals, trauma, allergies and various other illnesses such as skin diseases. The major symptoms of conjunctivitis are redness of the eyes, eye discharge, swelling of the conjunctiva, squinting or excessive blinking as well as occasional pawing or rubbing of the eyes.Gentamicin Sterile Ophthalmic Solution plays a vital role in the topical treatment of ocular bacterial infections such as conjunctivitis, keratitis, keratoconjunctivitis, corneal ulcers, blepharitis, blepharoconjunctivitis, acute meibomianitis, and dacryocystitis caused by microorganisms. The active ingredient in Gentamicin Ophthalmic Solution is Gentamicin sulfate, a water-soluble antibiotic, which belongs to the aminoglycoside group.
Directions
Wash your hands prior to applying the eye drops. Shake the bottle gently to be sure the medication is properly mixed. Do not touch the dropper opening to any surface including eyes and hands. The dropper opening is sterile and if it becomes contaminated it could cause an infection in the eye. Do not use any eye drops that are discolored or that have particles in them.
For dogs/cats/horses(all weights): The usual dose is 1-2 drops in the affected eye(s) every four hours, or as directed by your veterinarian
