Fludrocortisone acetate is a mineralocorticoid, a hormone that helps to regulate the concentration of sodium and potassium in the body. It is used to treat Addison’s disease (adrenocortical insufficiency, hypoadrenocorticism). This condition often requires life time treatment. Fludrocortisone may also be used to lower the potassium level in animals with hyperkalemia (high blood levels of potassium).
